Advancing knowledge of Maine plants since 1895

The Josselyn Botanical Society is a non-profit organization. Its foremost purpose is to advance the knowledge of Maine plants, principally through study of the local flora. Society records are published in society bulletins and stored at the University of Maine archives.

An important Society function is to interest and teach others who desire a better knowledge and appreciation of plants. Society members are conservation minded. The Society joins with state agencies, colleges and universities, herbaria, land trusts, and others interested in preserving our natural flora through education and example.

A Society of Botanists

Josselyn Botanical Society has been an active member-based organization meeting annually since 1895. Historically, the organization has included professional and lay-person botanists, student/expert naturalists, and artists whose interest is to preserve and educate others on the importance of the State’s flora and associated natural communities. We are an all-volunteer group.

Becoming a Member

Membership is achieved by attending at least one full day of the annual summer meeting and the annual business meeting, which is held during one of the evenings at the summer meeting. Those interested in potential membership can attend the spring meeting and any portion of the summer meeting to gauge if they wish to join the Society. For more information, please contact us.

Land Acknowledgment

We recognize that we are on indigenous land. In addition to the Abenaki, the broader place we now call Maine is home to the sovereign people of the Wabanaki Confederacy: the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mi’kmaq peoples. We exist on their unceded homelands.
